Going Further in Time

The ancient African kingdoms of Yam, Irtet and Setdju are not mentioned in the basic studies of Ancient Egypt for like Punt, these countries were visited often by the Ancient Egyptians but unlike their writings on Nubia and Libya, the directions to these countries from Egypt is not clear in the record.

These ancient Kingdoms are of interest to us for a number of credible accounts place these civilizations of old in the ancient homelands of the Nilotes. Could they be the location of the fabled Emet;ab Burgei.

This project seeks to answer these questions and more through scholarly debate. All opinions are welcomed.

There are only two known contemporary accounts of Yam. The more detailed comes from Harkhuf, chief lector of the Pharaoh's Merenre I and Pepi II. He led four missions to the land of Yam, three made under the reign of Merenre and the fourth during the reign of Pepi. The accounts of his journey are inscribed on the walls of his tomb, located in Aswan.
